A Pipeline for Middle-Skill Workers

While middle managers go wanting, middle-skill workers—e.g., computer support specialists and radiation therapists—are still in demand.  Community colleges are responding by redoubling their efforts to teach real-world skills that are prerequisites to middle-skill jobs.

Community colleges have long used methods like “tech prep” programs and internships, and they still do. In ourconversations with community college leaders, we learned that they are also using technology in new ways that make it easier for targeted populations of nontraditional students (e.g., veterans, older workers, immigrants) to learn any time and any place.
