Small and Medium Business Tech Trends for 2015

There’s no telling what technology will look like next month, let alone next year. Some trends are discernible, however. So what might be store for small and medium businesses in 2015 and beyond?

With a focus on emerging technologies, collaboration, and marketing solutions, Massachusetts-based SMB Group has once again generated their annual list of Top 10 Technology Market Predictions for small and medium businesses. Spending For a Mobile World
In a survey of small and medium business owners, 71 percent believe that mobile apps will eventually replace some of the most relied-upon traditional technologies they use today—and the numbers reflect that. Small and medium business spending on mobile technology jumped from 12 percent in 2013 to 16 percent in 2014, and it’s expected to jump again. Costs are primarily reflected in services and devices, but spending in other areas of mobile technology is also expected to rise.

A New IT Infrastructure
Today, 92 percent of small and medium businesses are using cloud-based business solutions and 87 percent are using cloud-based infrastructure solutions. While security still remains a concern, the need to store information and stay connected both in and away from the workplace has taken precedence. This year, cloud solutions are forecasted to become more prevalent as decision makers seek the most efficient means to support their business and their people.

Work Gets Reimagined
Work is changing. Evolutions in technology, demographics, and human expectations have all played their part. Because of this, small and medium businesses are seeking more efficient ways to choose and manage the technologies they use. As this trend continues, it will be crucial for vendors to consider small and medium businesses in how they market, develop, and support their products.
