Flex that Global Standard

Corporate standards for workspace size, furnishings, and ergonomic support make life easy in some ways. They reduce decision-making and, even better, squabbling about who gets what.

But global standards often puzzle in-country managers. For example, one European company had a height-adjustable desk as part of its standard package for its European offices. So it applied the same standard in its Dubai offices. It was a miss, since office workers in Dubai don’t work standing up.

If your organization uses a global standard, show your understanding of and respect for local culture by flexing the standard. Take out things that don’t make sense and add local style accents.
