When it comes to going green, libraries face unique challenges: What’s best for the environment may not be best for preserving books in every case. One 180,000 square foot library is showing it’s possible to protect both. It uses 42 percent less water and 50 percent less energy than similar buildings. The carpets contain 37 percent recycled content, while its acoustical ceiling tiles contain 66 percent recycled content. And the HVAC has sophisticated controls that modulate energy use. It’s all proof that libraries can be green leaders on campus.
